McLaren has released the performance figures for the new 650S, which is making its debut at the Geneva Motor Show next week.
And as we rather expected, it's going to be fast. Very, very fast, as a matter of fact.
0-62mph will take 3.0 seconds dead, with 124mph arriving in just 8.4 seconds. A standing quarter mile takes just 10.5 seconds and flat out you'll be doing 207mph.
This makes the new 650S a full second faster to 124mph than the legendary McLaren F1, which was, for well over ten years, the fastest car in the world. And although it doesn't come close to topping the F1's 240mph top speed, it'll cross the line 0.6 seconds ahead of it over a standing quarter mile.
McLaren, however, is keen to downplay the car's raw figures, instead focussing on driver involvement. Mile Flewitt, McLaren CEO, said: "Driving excitement is at the absolute heart of the McLaren 650S.
"Of course the performance figures are important, and they help boost excitement. But they're only part of the story. This is a car that's about feel as well as measurement."
Based on the 12C, the new 650S is styled to resemble the newly launched McLaren P1. Power comes from a 3.8-litre twin-turbocharged V8 engine developing 641bhp and 500lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels through a seven-speed dual-clutch gearbox.
The prices for the new 650S have also been announced, with the coupe costing from £195,250 and the Spider starting at £215,250.
Both the 650S Coupe and Spider will make their debuts next Tuesday at the Geneva Motor Show.
