Only Fools and Horses fans could be able to drive away in Del Boy’s iconic three-wheeled van when it goes up for auction at the Lancaster Insurance Classic Motor Show this month.
The 1968 Reliant Regal will go under the hammer at the Birmingham NEC on 12 November. Registration number BWC 94F, this is the actual van used in the 2002 Christmas Special, ‘If They Could See Us Now’. It retains the tiger print plus interior, ‘Tax in Post’ window notice, nodding tiger, furry dice, roof rack with suitcase, and a set of blow up plastic dolls in reference to one of the show’s most memorable storylines.
The van is signwritten ‘Trotters Independent Trading Co – New York, Paris, Peckham’. The van 71,778 miles on the clock and comes with original owners handbook and BBC history file. It comes with a reconditioned engine, synchromesh gearbox, remote control key start, DVD player, cassette radio, and even a smoke machine which emits smoke from the exhaust. MOT’d until June 2018, the van is offered for sale with no reserve.
“Del Boy’s Reliant Regal is one of the most distinctive cars of BBC comedy history!” said Nick Whale, managing director of Silverstone Auctions who are conducting the sale.
“Only Fools and Horses has a fan base spanning several generations and is something of a British treasure, so to have the van from the series for auction is a real treat which will no doubt draw the crowds”.
