2008 Formula One World Champion Lewis Hamilton today carried the Olympic torch through Luton as part of the Olympic celebrations.

Hamilton had been due to carry the flame through his hometown of Stevenage yesterday, but had to withdraw because it clashed with the British Grand Prix.

After his poor performance in yesterday's race, the McLaren-Mercedes driver joked that he might as well have carried it yesterday after all.

Of carrying the Olympic flame Hamilton said, "I am so incredibly honoured to have the opportunity to do this, not many people get to do this."

However, following on from the recent tax-avoidance scandal, is Hamilton the best man to represent Britain and the 2012 Olympics? After all, the multi-millionaire F1 driver lives as a tax-exile in Monaco, as do fellow British drivers Jenson Button and Paul di Resta.
