The Alfa Romeo Giulietta is now greener and more economical after the manufacturer announced it has made a number of revisions to range’s engine line up.
Improvements to the popular 1.6-litre JTDM-2 turbo diesel engine sees CO2 emission drop below the magic 100g/km mark, falling from 104g/km to a road tax beating 99g/km thanks to the introduction of a new variable geometry turbo charger and low rolling-resistance tyres, despite a 15bhp jump in power output to 120bhp. Top speed rises to 121mph, while 1.3 seconds is shaved off the 0.62mph acceleration time which is now ten seconds flat. Fuel economy has also been boosted by the changes, with the 1.6-litre JTDM-2 now capable of 74.3mpg combined compared to the 70.6mpg offered by the outgoing 105bh version.
Both the 150bhp and 170bhp versions of the 1.4-litre MultiAir Turbo petrol engine now fall into a lower emissions band reducing the amount due in road tax as a result.
Apart from the 150bhp 2.0-litre JTDM-2 power plant all engines in the Giulietta range are now Euro 6 emissions compliant, with a one per Benefit in Kind reduction for business buyers as a result.
Prices for the Alfa Romeo Giulietta remain unchanged despite the improvements, with the entry-level 1.4-litre TB 120bhp Progression starting at £18,450 on-the-road. The Business Edition range with 6.5-inch touchscreen Uconnect infotainment system, voice-activated satellite navigation, 3D mapping, DAB digital radio, front and rear parking sensors; automatic lights and wipers, alloy wheels and metallic paint as standard, start from £19,080 for the 1.6 JTDM-2 120hp turbo diesel.
