Lamborghini will unveil a new hard-core version of its Gallardo at the Frankfurt Motor Show. The new car will be the final incarnation of the Gallardo to enter production.

The Gallardo has been in production since 2003 and Lamborghini are planning to release a road-going version of the Super Trofeo racing car as a final celebration of the Gallardo name.

Lamborghini have been tight-lipped over the details of the new car but expect it to be lighter and more powerful than any of the Gallardos that preceded it – 0-62mph in under three seconds and a top speed on the scary side of 210mph.

The new car will almost certainly have a limited production run and prices are expected to exceed £200,000.

It seems to be a fitting way to bid farewell to the Gallardo whose replacement – the Cabrera – is rumoured to be in the pipeline.
