Twenty-five years after it started trading in the UK, Kia is celebrating its 750,000th sale.
Kia sold just under 1,800 cars in 1991, its first year of UK trading, a figure it now sells on average every fortnight.
The Korean manufacturer has 188 dealers in its UK network, and the honour of selling the 750,000th example fell to Draycotts of Sutton-in-Ashfield, who have been a Kia dealership since 1991. The 750,000th Kia to be sold in the UK was a Sportage 2.0 CRDI GT-Line to a customer who has owned four Kia’s previously.
The Kia Picanto has been the brand’s most popular UK model, selling 152,000 units since it was introduced in 2004. The Sportage, now in its fourth generation, is not far behind on 140,000 units.
Kia’s sales have accelerated, with nearly have of those 750,000 sales coming in the past five years, meaning they are hopeful of reaching the one million mark before this decade is out.
