On first glance this car looks like a standard run-of-the-mill Lincoln Continental convertible. What it is, however, is a gen-yoo-wine slice of American history as this is the car in which John F. Kennedy was ferried around Texas on November 22 1963.
In case you needed to be reminded, this is the day on which JFK's presidency was brutally truncated by the rifle bullet of Lee Harvey Oswald. And although this Lincoln isn't the car in which he was assassinated, it was the car he rode in just beforehand. In short, it's the last car he got out of alive.
It was used to transport the President and his wife, along with Texas Governor John Connally, from breakfast at the Hotel Texas ballroom through the streets of Forth Worth to Carswell Air Force Base where they boarded a plane for the short flight to Dallas.
The car was owned by Bill Golightly, a car dealer from Fort Worth who had loaned the car for the President's use. It changed hands a few times after Kennedy's assassination, ending up at the now-closed Museum of America Tragedy before being sold privately in 1998.
Nicknamed 'Limo One', the Lincoln has been fully restored by Baker Restoration who replaced the engine and tidied up the bodywork. However, the interior is upholstered with the same red leather on which Kennedy rested his presidential behind, fifty years ago.
So if you're interested in getting behind the wheel of Kennedy's penultimate car, it's being sold through RR Auctions. Bids start at $50,000.
