Jaguar has released an official image of its new XE small saloon ahead of its planned unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in October.
The image, which was posted to Jaguar's Twitter feed, shows a heavily disguised example of the new car. And although it only shows a heavily-disguised version of Jaguar's new 3 Series rival, it does give us an idea of what the finished product will look like.
Underneath, the Jaguar XE will be based on an all-new lightweight aluminium chassis and will be available in both rear-wheel drive and four-wheel drive incarnations. It will be powered by a range of 2.0-litre four-cylinder versions of the company's new 'Ingenium' engine range which, according to company execs, will manage both sub-100g/km CO2 figures and 186mph-plus speed.
The XE is an important car for Jaguar and the company will be hoping it can capitalise on the growing market for compact executive cars, taking a slice out of the BMW 3 Series, the Audi A4 and the Mercedes C-Class in the process. It's Jaguar's first foray into the market since the demise of the X-Type back in 2009.
The Jaguar XE will go on sale in the UK next year.
