Jaguar has released an official photograph of the new F-Type, following a leak on a US Facebook page.
The F-Type is the long-awaited successor to the old Jaguar E-Type, and is due to be revealed to the public at next week's Paris Motor Show.
The rear-wheel drive two-seater shares many similarities with the C-X16 concept revealed at the Frankfurt Motor Show last year, and is set to rival the legendary Porsche 911 when it goes on sale in early 2013.
The F-Type has eschewed Jaguar's trademark oval grille in favour of a wider, more angular version, and features swept-back headlamps, a gloss black front splitter and a sculpted bonnet design. The front grille is also flanked by two pairs of vertical gills.
Jaguar has already revealed that the F-Type will be available with a new supercharged 3.0-litre V6 engine, and an updated version of the firm's 5.0-litre V8. An eight speed automatic gearbox sends the power to the rear wheels and start-stop is included as standard.
The F-Type is loosely based on the current XK; however, the F-Type is shorter than the XK, and Jaguar claims that it offers a more involving drive.
Prices are expected to start from around £55,000 -- about £10k less than the entry-level XK -- and, initially, the F-Type will be available as a roadster only. A coupe version is expected to join the line-up in 2014.
Adrian Hallmark, Jaguar's Global Brand Director, said: "As its sporting forebears did in their era, the F-Type will break new ground by delivering stunning sports car performance while vividly demonstrating Jaguar's cutting-edge engineering technologies and world-class design excellence.
"The next step in Jaguar's sporting bloodline is about to become reality."
