At this year's Geneva Motor Show in March Jaguar will unveil the next-generation XKR Coupe, and it will be the fastest XK yet.
Jaguar has announced that it will reveal the latest incarnation of the supercharged Jaguar XKR Coupe to the world at this year's Geneva International Motor Show in March. The new XKR will have a top speed of 174mph, which is significantly higher than the 155mph that the current version can manage, along with a refreshed look.
When it gets its world debut in Geneva the XKR Coupe will showcase two new optional performance and styling packs, called 'Speed Pack' and 'Black Pack', which will be introduced to the XK range for the 2011 Model Year. It will also showcase new optional Piano Black veneers on the dashboard and red brake callipers.
The Speed Pack is responsible for the increase in the car's top speed up to an electronically limited 174mph. It does this through a recalibration of the engine and transmission. To ensure that the vehicle remains stable at the new high speeds the refreshed XKR has a new aerodynamic splitter at the front and larger rear spoiler to reduce lift. An Active Differential Control system will also adjust the steering sensitivity, reducing it at high speeds to further improve handling. The new Speed Pack will also include body-coloured side sills and rear diffuser, and chrome finish window surrounds, upper and lower mesh grille, side Power Vents and boot lid finisher.
The Black Pack models will be available in Ultimate Black, Polaris White or Salsa Red, and the exterior styling will be enhanced by the addition of 20 inch Kalimnos alloys, gloss black wheels, gloss black finishing for the window surrounds and grilles, body-coloured front and rear spoilers and boot lid, plus the option to add a large XKR side body graphic. On the inside of the car the Black Pack will add Charcoal leather hides which can be personalised with a choice of stitching and grain colours, and a choice of three sets of veneers, finishes and door trims: Dark Oak, Dark Mesh Aluminium, and Piano Black.
Commenting on the new release, the Chief Programme Engineer for the XK Series Russ Varney said:
"With 510PS [503bhp] and 625Nm [461lb-ft] of torque, the XKR has immense reserves of power and acceleration which impress everyone who experience it. The car has always had the potential to reach speeds far beyond its original electronically limited maximum and many of our customers have expressed an interest in a car that can safely be driven faster where conditions permit. The new Speed Pack allows them to release some of that potential and give them control of the fastest Jaguar XK we've made to date."
In addition to the new optional packs the new XKR will have red brake callipers as standard on all Coupe and Convertible models. A tyre repair Instant Mobility system is also being made available as standard equipment on all XK and XKR models.
Prices for the XK range start at £61,955 for a 5.0-litre V8 petrol engine car. Adding the new Speed Pack on top of this costs £3,500 and the Speed and Black Pack costs £4,000.
