It has been revealed that former Formula One racer and highly-regarded television commentator Martin Brundle will race in next years Le Mans 24 Hours behind the wheel of the Nissan-powered LMP2 prototype, and will be joined by his son Alex.
Brundle senior previously piloted the works Nissan R390 GT1 in the 1997 event, and will now partner his 21-year-old son in the LMP2 class Greaves Motorsport Zytek Z11SN-Nissan sports prototype. The car won the LMP2 class in this year's Le Mans 24 Hour driven by Karim Ojjeh, Olivier Lombard and Tom Kimber-Smith.
The 80th running of the world's oldest and most iconic endurance race will see Martin and Alex Brundle follow in the footsteps of Mario and Michael Andretti, and Nigel, Leo, and Greg Mansell, as examples of fathers and sons who have competed in the event as team-mates.
"I'm very much looking forward to returning to the Le Mans 24 Hour race with Nissan and the Greaves Motorsport LMP2 team", said 52-year-old Brundle senior, "I'm eagerly anticipating a very special feeling when handing the car over to Alex during one of the world's greatest motor races."
Alex Brundle, 21, is also looking forward to driving alongside his father, a partnership he hopes "can fast-track my learning process - my father has been on pole position, led many times and been part of the winning team. Thanks go to Nissan and Greaves Motorsport for creating this important opportunity."
