These are the first official images of the new Honda Civic Tourer, which makes it worldwide debut at the Frankfurt Motor Show next month.
The Civic Tourer was developed and designed in Europe specifically for the EU market and will be built alongside the CR-V and the Jazz in Swindon when it goes into production early next year.
Honda first allowed us a glance at the Civic Tourer when it revealed the Civic Wagon Concept at the Geneva Motor Show in March and although the production model looks markedly different to the concept, some styling themes have been retained.
Like the concept, the Civic Tourer features a bold line which runs from the A- to the D-pillars, giving the impression of a 'floating roof'.
But despite the Civic's stylish design, Honda is quick to point out that the Tourer is a practical car, boasting class-leading boot space. Although the Tourer shares is wheelbase with the Civic hatch it's 235mm longer than the hatchback, with the result that there is 624-litres of boot space on offer with the rear seats up and 1668-litres with the seats down.
The Civic Tourer will be offered with a choice of two engines: a new 1.6-litre i-DTEC diesel and a 1.8-litre i-VTEC petrol unit, with a choice of both manual and automatic transmissions.
Honda is also offering the Tourer with a new Adaptive Damper System (ADS) which is the first of its kind ever fitted to a production car. It features three settings -- comfort, normal and dynamic -- which Honda claims allows the car to provide agile handling when required while remaining comfortable on the motorway cruise.
There's no official word yet on prices but expect the Civic Tourer to cost between £700 and £1000 more than the equivalent hatch when order books open in December, with the entry-level 1.8-petrol starting from around £19,000.
