These are grey days indeed, as the decidedly un-colourful colour remains the top choice amongst new car buyers.

Grey became the UK’s favourite new car colour in 2018, and new figures from the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders show it retained its popularity last year.

In fact, more than a fifth of new cars sold in the UK last year were finished in grey, increasing its market share over nearest rivals black and white in a monochromatic top three.

Positions in the top ten remained largely unchanged in 2019, but yellow crept back in having been usurped by beige the previous year.  Silver remained in the top ten but with its lowest sales figures for two decades, just 201,008 having been specified in the colour.  Maroon, cream, and pink are the lease common colours, accounting for less than one per cent combined of new car sales last year.
