A 1950 Rolls-Royce Silver Wraith, originally owned by comedian George Formby, is expected to fetch between £40,000 and £48,000 when it goes under the hammer later this month.
The car is believed to be the same model used as the show car at the 1950 Earls Court motor show and features blue and black coachwork. The Rolls has an extensively documented history which reveals that it received an engine change in the 1960s at the Rolls-Royce factory before being bought by a young stockbroker who spent more than £80,000 restoring it to its original glory. Since then the car has been maintained by Rolls specialists and is said to be in "exemplary" condition.
Formby was a prolific buyer of cars, using his considerable fortune to buy more than 26 Rolls-Royces and Bentleys over the years. He kept this Rolls for just two years, parting with it in 1952.
The Formby Rolls will go under the hammer alongside 116 other classic cars at Brooklands on Saturday 30 November.
