Volvo has revealed its plans for the V60 Plug-in Hybrid.
The Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid - which the manufacturer describes as virtually production ready - will make its public debut a this year's Geneva Motor Show on 1st March, the Swedish car maker has announced.
The V60 Plug-in Hybrid has front wheels driven by a 215bhp, 5-cylinder, 2.4-litre turbodiesel engine, while the rear wheels are powered by an Electric Rear Axle Drive system comprising of a 70bhp electric motor. The electric motor is in turn powered by a 12kw lithium-ion battery pack. Fitted with a 6-speed automatic gearbox, the Volvo V60 Plug-in Hybrid can travel up to 32 miles purely on electricity.
The new hybrid, designed in co-operation with Swedish energy company Vattenfall, returns CO2 emissions of under 50g/km, which Volvo equate to a fuel consumption of 150mpg. Next year, Volvo aims to be the first manufacturer to release this new breed of hybrid onto the market.
Revealing the planned public unveiling of the V60 Plug-In Hybrid, Volvo Cars President and CEO Stefan Jacoby said, "In order to get true car enthusiasts to think green, you have to offer them the opportunity to drive with low carbon dioxide emissions without taking away the adrenaline rush that promotes genuine driving pleasure. The V60 Plug-in Hybrid has all the traditional properties of a genuine sports wagon. What we've done is to spice it up with spearhead technology".
