Volkswagen will use next week's Geneva Motor Show to showcase its BlueMotion additions to the new Passat range.
The new Passat was unveiled at last year's Paris Motor Show, and had a UK sale launch in January this year. Now Volkswagen have added BlueMotion editions which reduce CO2 emissions to 109g/km for the saloon, and 114g/km for the estate model. BlueMotion modifications have improved fuel consumption to 67.3mpg (64.2mpg for the estate), with the 104bhp 1.6-litre TDI engine mated to a 6-speed manual gearbox.
The BlueMotion models include stop/start and battery regeneration, low rolling resistance tyres, lightweight aerodynamic alloy wheels, lowered suspension, and an underbody panel fitted to reduce aerodynamic drag - all features designed to provide increased efficiency.
The level of standard equipment and safety measures is unaffected by the BlueMotion modifications, and the level remains identical to the current Volkswagen Passat S. Options on the BlueMotion include fatigue detection system, emergency braking system, Volkswagen's Park Assist II system, high beam assist, and Easy Open boot.
Following their debut in Geneva next week, the BlueMotion Passat models will be released in the UK in June, with the first models expected to be delivered in August.
