Ford has launched a new hybrid version of the Kuga SUV.
Priced from £33,600, the new Ford Kuga Hybrid offers over 600 miles of petrol-electric and pure-electric driving, and without ever having to plug in to recharge as it has a self-charging 1.1 kWh battery which is automatically replenished both by the 2.5-litre Atkinson cycle petrol engine and using regenerative charging when coasting or braking.
The new model is built at Ford’s Valencia plant in Spain, which has undergone huge investment in readiness for the company’s future electrification strategy. The self-charging Kuga Hybrid joins the Kuga Plug-In Hybrid and EcoBlue Hybrid 48-volt mild hybrid versions in the model range.
The Kuga Hybrid’s ability to travel over 600 miles on a single tank of fuel gives a fuel economy figure from 48.7mpg and CO2 emissions from 130 g/km. The total driving range is more than 30 per cent greater than that of the Kuga Plug-In Hybrid. It automatically switches between pure-electric, hybrid and petrol power according to driving conditions.
ST Line Edition, ST Line X Edition and Vignale trim levels are available, all with a standard FordPass Connect modem that provides Live Traffic updates for the navigation system and the FordPass mobile app which features Door Lock Unlock, Remote Start and Vehicle Locator. A wireless charging pad is also standard, as is Ford’s SYNC 3 infotainment system with 8 inch central touchscreen and premium B&O sound system.
The new self-charging Kuga Hybrid is available to order at Ford retailers. Read our Ford Kuga review to find out more or check out our guide to the best hybrid SUVs for alternatives.
