The introduction of new engines to the Focus ST has paid dividends for Ford, with sales of the model skyrocketing this year.
Ford Focus ST sales are up by a staggering 270 per cent since the new powertrains were launched, with 6,700 examples finding UK buyers so far in 2015 compared to 2,460 in the whole of 2014. The EcoBoost petrol variant has been slightly more popular than its diesel stable mate with a 55 per cent share of sales, a contest between the two which may get even closer now Ford has announced the addition of a six-speed dual-clutch PowerShift option to the diesel. The new Focus ST PowerShift will be the fastest accelerating Ford diesel to date with a 0-62mph time of 7.7 seconds, with full automatic or paddle-shift settings as well as sport mode. Despite the rapid performance 61.4mpg is still achievable while CO2 emissions are as low as 119g/km.
“New Focus ST has been a runaway success with customers spoilt for choice between our latest petrol and diesel power units,” said Roelant de Waard, Ford of Europe Vice President for Marketing, Sales and Service.
“Diesel drivers now have the additional option of the Ford PowerShift transmission, which allows them to swap between quick-shifting automatic and sporty manual to suit their mood.”
