Fiat fans wanting to own an example of the special 124 Spider Anniversary Edition, which was unveiled at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year, will have to wait for one to become available on the used market after the manufacturer confirmed the model has already sold out.
The first examples of the 124 Spider Anniversary Edition were not due to hit Fiat showrooms for another fortnight, but that hasn’t stopped advance orders accounting for all 124 UK models.
Just 124 numbered examples of the £23,295 model were made available to UK enthusiasts to mark the 50th anniversary of Fiat’s original roadster. Its unique equipment list included Passione Red paint, silver finish windscreen frame, rollover bars and door mirrors, a numbered "Anniversary Edition" plaque, and a 124 Spider badge on the front grille. Standard equipment also included full LED adaptive headlights, seven-inch touchscreen infotainment system with multimedia control knob, SatNav with 3D maps, DAB radio, twin USB ports, Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connectivity, cruise control, keyless start, black leather heated seats, nine-speaker BOSE audio system, automatic lights and wipers, rear parking sensors and 17-inch alloys.
Fiat UK’s Sebastiano Fedrigo explained, “The interest in Fiat’s reborn roadster has been incredible and that’s before most people have even seen the car in the metal”.
Fiat are hoping the interest in the special edition will translate into sales success for the rest of the 124 Spider range, which goes on UK sale next month priced from £19,545 on-the-road. The rear-wheel drive, 140bhp 1.4-litre MultiAir turbo-powered 124 Spider is capable of 0-62 mph in 7.5 seconds, and a top speed of 134mph.
