Ferrari has revealed what it calls “the most powerful and high-performance Ferrari road car ever”. The F 12 Berlinetta is being unveiled online and promises consumers an unprecedented level of motoring performance.
While its world debut will take place at the Geneva International Motor Show this March, Ferrari has already unveiled its new creation at ferrari.com. The F 12 Berlinetta is set to replace the current 599 model.
Ferrari claims that this model is the first in a new generation of V12 cars and the F12 features an "incredibly efficient engine - in terms of mechanical, combustion and fluid-dynamics efficiency".
In this new model, the wheelbase has been shortened and the engine, dashboard and seats have been lowered in the chassis to achieve better handling. In addition, the new layout of the rear suspension and gearbox has enabled Ferrari's engineers to make the rear volume of the car smaller.
Those two changes have made the car much more compact, with a lower centre of gravity and a level of aerodynamic efficiency that they claim 'sets new standards.'
Powerful but greener
Ferrari claim that the F 12 Berlinetta's 6262cc V12 engine delivers 'unprecedented' performance and revs for a naturally-aspirated 12-cylinder, churning out 730bhp.
On top of this, the Fezza chucks out 509 Ib-ft of torque, 80% of which is available at just 2,500 rpm. The engine is mated to the F1 dual-clutch transmission, which has closer gear ratios developed specifically for the Berlinetta. The F12 boasts a weight-to-power ratio of just 2.1kg/bhp.
Aside from working on its power, Ferrari has also worked on reducing the Berlinetta's CO2 figures. Consequently, fuel consumption has been reduced by 30%, with CO2 emissions of just 350g/km.
Ferrari have been tight-lipped on the question of the price, but expect the F 12 Berlinetta to cost north of £250,000.
