Volkswagen has released the first images of its new, facelifted Scirocco ahead of the car's debut at the Geneva Motor Show in March.
Although you'd be hard pushed to tell the difference between the new Scirocco and its predecessor on first inspection, Volkswagen has given the car new front and rear ends, as well as a new range of engines which improve efficiency by up to 19 per cent.
The styling changes are limited to new headlights and tail lights, as well as new bumpers which now feature aerodynamic 'blades' in the outer section, with integrated indicators, daytime-running lights and fog lights.
At the back, all Sciroccos now have LED tail lights and, as on the Golf, the Volkswagen badge now acts as the boot release handle.
The Scirocco R has also been updated with bespoke bumpers and the same 18-inch 'Cadiz' alloys you'll find on the Golf R.
There have been similar changes inside, with the new car coming with new-look dials and an auxiliary instrument cluster above the centre console -- a tribute to the original 1974 Scirocco.
Under the bonnet of the new Scirocco range there's a line-up of six new turbocharged direct-injection petrol and diesel engines, all of which meet the new Euro 6 emissions standards.
The petrol range consists of a 1.4-litre petrol with 123bhp, a new 2.0-litre unit with 178bhp, another 2.0-litre unit with 217bhp and, in the Scirocco R, a 276bhp 2.0-litre engine.
Two diesels will be on offer, both 2.0-litres, with either 148bhp or 181bhp, the less powerful of which will return a combined 68.9mpg. Depending on model, both petrol and diesel models will be offered with a choice of six-speed manual or six- or seven-speed DSG gearboxes.
