Euro NCAP have released their seventh and final batch of safety test results of 2015, with Brit-built motors celebrating the award of top marks.
A total of 15 cars were included in the latest round of crash safety testing with 11 of those attaining the full 5-star rating – including the Jaguar XE and Jaguar XF models, and the all-new Vauxhall Astra.
Joining them in earning top marks were the BMW X1, Lexus RX, Mercedes-Benz GLC, Infiniti Q30, Kia Sportage, Kia Optima, Renault Megane, and Renault Talisman.
The MINI Clubman fell one star short, as did the Nissan NP300 Navara, while the BMW Z4 earned a mediocre 3-star rating and the Lancia Ypsilon a miserable two stars.
Most models in the test feature some form of autonomous braking, an increasingly common safety feature which will form a standard part of NCAP testing from 2016. The BMW Z4, as the oldest model testing, lacks crash avoidance technology such as autonomous braking, lane assist, and speed assist, going some way to explaining its lacklustre results, while the Lancia Ypsilon – sold as the Chrysler Ypsilon in the UK – suffered from a similar absence of safety systems and for poor performance in the adult occupant protection category.
