Volvo has announced it will be fitting the new Euro 6 compliant Drive-E four-cylinder engines to all front-wheel-drive models as part of a greater programme of improvements to its range.

Designed and manufactured in-house by Volvo, the Drive-E range of engines and gearboxes use weight reduction technology to aid lower emissions and increased fuel economy. The engines are up to 2.0-litres in capacity, and use a combination of turbocharging, supercharging, and electrification. Last year saw the launch of the T5, T5AWD, and D4 Drive-E engines, and these are now joined by the T2 and T3 petrol engines and the D2 and D3 diesel power units.

As a result of the new engines, all manual diesel V40 and V40 R-Design models now emit under 100g/km of CO2. The V40 Cross Country now has enhanced power, emissions, and fuel consumption, with the D2 and D3 manual models also now sub-100g/km of CO2 emissions.  The S60 now has two new petrol models with the introduction of the Drive-E powered 2.0-litre T3 manual and 1.5-litre T3 auto.  In addition, the new D2 and D3 Drive-E diesel engines join the range, while the D4 engine has seen its output increased to 190bhp, will all three available on the S60 and V60 ranges.

Other changes to the V40 range include a new 1.5-litre petrol auto option.  Both the V40 range and V70 range add two new colours in Magic Blue and Onyx Black. The S60, V60, and V70 now have the Air Quality System and Rain Sensor as standard, while changes to the paint colour options see Onyx Black, Magic Blue, and Osmium Grey introduced for S60 and V60 models. Skadi 18-inch and Portia 19-inch alloy wheels are also new to the S60, V60, and V70 ranges.

Meanwhile, the XC60 range sees a power increase in its front-wheel-drive, four-cylinder Drive-E D4 diesel model, which now produces 190bhp. The five-cylinder D4 and D5 All-Wheel-Drive models see their output rise to the same level, but with a reduction in CO2 emissions.  All XC90 models will now have the Air Quality System and Rain Sensor, as well as two new alloy wheel designs in the form of the Leda 18-inch and Lesath 19-inch.  New colours added to the XC90 paint finish range are Magic Blue Osmium Grey, and Onyx Black.

Similarly, the XC70 D4 AWD sees a fall in CO2 emissions and improved fuel economy, as does the D5 AWD model despite an increase in power to 220bhp. The XC70 range gains Magic Blue, Rich Java, and Onyx Black paint finish options, the Air Quality System, and the new 18-inch Leda alloy wheel design.
