Research from Skoda has revealed the importance of a company car in recruiting and retaining employees, particularly younger workers.

Of those questioned, 88% claimed the benefits package was the most important thing when negotiating a new job, with two thirds of those saying that should include a company vehicle. Drivers aged 17-24 were found to be the most likely swayed by the attraction of a company car, with a third saying they would be more likely to accept a job if it came with a vehicle and more than a quarter citing it as the most important benefit.

Company cars were even found to be an important factor in staff retention, with almost two thirds of respondents saying they’d be more likely to stay in a job if it came with a set of work wheels, prioritising it as even more important even than medical insurance or frequent training.

Sixty-eight per cent of men said a company car would be a deciding factor in accepting a job offer, compared to 58% of women.

Henry Williams, Head of Fleet at Skoda UK said, “Our research shows company cars are very appealing to workers of all ages, but particularly young people. We see this trend strongly outside of London, where many companies are based at out-of-town locations – making a car essential for the daily commute.”
