The COVID-19 outbreak has forced Classic Car Auctions to move this Saturday’s sale to an online-only format for the first time, but they have managed to add some celebrity glitz to the event.
The virtual sale takes place this Saturday via online platforms Proxibid, The Saleroom, and Invaluable, as well as by phone and commission bids, with the chance to buy some classic motors with a celebrity past.
Amongst the lots is a 1993 Mercedes-Benz 500E belonging to Blackadder actor and car nut Rowan Atkinson. The 500E is finished in a rare Nautic Blue with leather upholstery, of which the comedy legend commented, “I’ve never seen another in blue. I have owned four different 500Es over the years and this colour scheme is, to me, by far the most attractive.”
Also in the sale are a brace of cars that might interest fans of the band Jamiroquai. The band’s frontman Jay Kay is offering for sale the 1972 BMW 1602 he learned to drive in. He bought the car back with the intention to restore it, but is now auctioning the car at no reserve in the hope that someone will bring it back to roadworthiness. A 1976 Rolls-Royce Silver Shadow formerly owned by Jay Kay is expected to fetch between £27-32,000. The Black Emerald Metallic example with just 42,000 miles on the clock was treated to a bare metal refurb five years ago.
Carrying an estimate of £50,000-plus is a 1968 Chevrole Camaro SS owned by TV presenter Mike Brewer. The Wheeler Dealer’s star has ploughed more that £40,000 in rebuilding the Le Mans Blue, 410bhp muscle car to an exceptional standard.
The Classic Car Auctions virtual sale start from 10am on Saturday.
