Silverstone Auctions’ sale at last weekend’s Classic Motor Show saw a number of record values achieved, including one car restored for an upcoming episode of For the Love of Cars.
The 1958 Lotus Elite Series I restored by Ant Anstead, Philip Glenister, and the For the Love of Cars team fetched a new record auction price of £121,500 – more than £40,000 over its lower estimate – and will feature in a one off episode of the Channel 4 show at 8pm this Sunday.
A 1969 Aston Martin DBS 6 Vantage Spec previous restored by the team sold online for a world record market price of £174,375 to a buyer in Austria.
Other world record auction prices included a 1985 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo SE Flatnose which sold for £202,500, holding the record for just an hour before a price of £211,500 was paid for a right-hand drive 1989 Porsche 911 (930) Turbo Flachbau. The highest value lot of the sale was a 1957 Porsche 356A T1 Speedster, which sold for £306,563.
Seven Jaguar E-Types were amongst the sale lots, all selling for above their pre-sale estimates. A 1962 E-Type 3.8 Roadster went for £171,000, almost £80,000 over its lower estimate, a 1965 E-Type 4.2 Series I Roadster sold for £146,250, more than £50,000 over its lower estimate, and a ‘barn-find’ 1974 Jaguar E-Type Series III Roadster sold for £69,750, nearly double its lower estimate. A world record auction price was also achieved on a 1977 Jaguar XJ12 Coupe, selling for £43,875.
A 1969 Morris Mini Super Deluxe, restored and entered by Lancaster Insurance, sold for £12,938 with the proceeds donated to Prostate Cancer UK.
