Citroen has revealed the first images of its new DS3 Cabriolet ahead of its public debut at the Paris Motor Show next month.
The drop-top DS3 is fitted with a traditional canvas roof rather than a clever folding metal design; however, Citroen claims that when the roof is up, the DS3 benefits from hatchback levels of refinement.
The roof takes just 16 seconds to close and can be operated at speeds of up to 75mph. It can also be specified in your choice of three colours: black, two-tone grey with DS3 logos, and Infiniti Blue.
Normally when a car has its roof cut off it actually becomes heavier, as the engineers have to add lots of strengthening beams to keep the car rigid. And while the DS3 Cabrio is heavier than the hatchback, Citroen has managed to keep the weight increase down to 25kg.
Citroen has also managed to preserve most of the DS3's boot space and, at 245-litres, the DS3 cabrio's boot is just 40-litres smaller than it is in the hatchback. Citroen also claims that it's the largest in its class.
The DS3 Cabriolet is expected to go on sale here in the UK early next year, and is likely to cost around £2,000 more than the equivalent hatchback.
