The Chevrolet Spark EV, Chevy's all-new battery-powered small car, will go on display at the Geneva Motor Show next month, following its debut at the LA motor show last year.

Chevrolet claims that the Spark EV is powered by the most advanced electric motor and battery system ever built by General Motors, offering 'sports-car-like' acceleration and 'smooth, yet instantaneous' torque.

The Spark's electric motor produces more than 130bhp and 400lb-ft of torque, giving a 0-62mph time of 8.5 seconds.

The power comes from a lithium-ion battery which is expected to achieve the best electric range in its class. Chevy claims that the battery will be able to recharge to up to 80 per cent of its capacity in 20 minutes with DC fast charging.

The Spark EV will come with two seven-inch LCD touchscreens, one of which functions as the instrument cluster, with the other serving as the interface for the car's infotainment systems. Chevrolet's MyLink connected radio technology also comes as standard, allowing drivers to sync their smartphones to the car for music playback, navigation and internet connectivity.

The Chevrolet Spark EV will be sold in 'select European markets' by 2014; however, it is unclear whether Chevy will offer the car in the UK.
