This is the new Chevrolet Corvette, which is due to make its world debut at the New York Motor Show later this week.
Based on the Z06 Coupe which was revealed at the Detroit Motor Show earlier this year, it's the first convertible version of the high-performance Z06 the company has made since 1963.
Underneath, the convertible is virtually identical to the coupe. Because the C7's aluminium chassis is 20 per cent stiffer than the one in its predecessor, the C6 Z06, no structural modifications were needed in the Corvette's translation from tin-top to soft-top.
The Z06 is fitted with a 6.2-litre V8 engine which develops 625bhp and 635lb-ft of torque. The power is sent to the rear wheels through either an eight-speed automatic or seven-speed manual gearbox, with a limited-slip differential helping to put the power on the road.
The big difference, of course, between the Coupe and the Convertible is the latter's fabric roof. Available in four colours, the roof can be lowered at speeds of up to 30mph and is also fitted with soundproofing material to improve refinement.
Like the standard Corvette, the new Z06 Convertible will be offered in the UK from next year, albeit in limited numbers and with left-hand drive only.
