Have you ever wanted to test a pre-production road car to the limit, months before the car reaches showrooms? Well, now you can, and all you need is a Playstation 3 and a game called Gran Turismo.
Chevrolet has teamed up with Polyphony Digital Inc., the developers of the Gran Turismo franchise, to allow gamers to download and drive the new Corvette C7. Only a handful of GM test drivers have driven the new 'Vette for real.
And if you're slightly confused as to why the new C7 looks a little odd, it's because the car is heavily camouflaged. Chevrolet plans to launch the new Corvette at next year's Detroit Motor Show on 13 January, and it doesn't want to give the game away by showing the car's bodywork before that date.
But while the Gran Turismo 'Vette might not look anything like a Corvette, it should feel just like the new car to drive. Polyphony Digital Inc. have been given unprecedented access to the C7, allowing them to carefully analyse the car's driving characteristics and provide an ultra-realistic driving simulation in the game.
There are very few details available on the new Corvette; however, we do know that it'll be fitted with an improved version of the old car's 6.2-litre V8.
Kazunori Yamauchi, President of Polyphony Digital Inc, said: "As car enthusiasts, we're thrilled to give fans this extraordinary level of access to the seventh generation Corvette that otherwise would not be possible."
