Ladies and gentlemen, meet the new Chevrolet Camaro Z/28, the fastest and most 'track capable' Camaro ever made.
The Z/28 was unveiled as part of the new restyled Camaro line at the New York Motor Show.
The Camaro's chief engineer, Al Oppenheiser, said that when designing the Z/28, his team "set out to make the fastest road-racing Camaro possible that was still street-legal."
The Z/29 is 136kg lighter than the standard ZL1 thanks to the removal of the tyre-inflation kit, air-conditioning, sound-proofing and HID headlamps, and by the use of thinner glass for the rear window.
The chassis has been tweaked, with the result that the Z/28 is now capable of pulling 1.05 g in the corners. The Z/28's also features carbon-ceramic brakes which are capable of generating 1.5 g in deceleration forces.
A full aerodynamic kit is also included as standard, featuring a large front splitter connected to an underbody panel designed to reduce lift, along with wheelarch extensions, a rear wing and a functional diffuser.
Under the bonnet, the Z/28 gets the 7.0-litre V8 engine from a Corvette ZO6. Chevrolet has yet to release any precise performance figures, claiming that the engine will develop 'at least 500 horsepower' and 470lb-ft of torque.
