Chevrolet has released official details of its new Spark electric car ahead of its debut at the Los Angeles Motor Show.
The Spark EV, which will be the first all-electric car to be launched in the USA, will initially be sold only in the States, Australia, India and South Korea. There is no word yet on whether the Spark EV will make it to the UK.
General Motors will build the Spark in Korea before shipping it to the US, where it will be fitted with the firm's American-made electric drivetrain.
The electric motor in the Spark EV will develop 130bhp -- 50bhp more than the most powerful petrol-powered Spark -- and 400lb-ft of torque which, thanks to the nature of the electric motor, will be available the second you put your foot down. 0-62mph will take less than 8 seconds.
The electricity will be stored in a 20KwH battery which can be fully recharged in seven hours via a conventional 240v domestic electrical supply. A fast-charge option will also be available, enabling the battery to be charged to 80 per cent of its full capacity within 20 minutes.
Chevrolet has not revealed the Spark EV's expected range, but a range in the region of 90 miles seems likely.
The Spark EV goes on sale in the US in mid-2013 and will cost $25,000 (£15,595 at the current exchange rate).
