Caterham’s 60th birthday celebrations have been given a further boost with the announcement of record sales figures.
The British sports car maker has already beaten the record haul of over 600 orders it set in 2016, despite their still being more than two months of this year left.
The news coincided with a milestone date, as Caterham unveiled its very first Seven model at the Earls Court Motor Show on 16 October 1957.
Caterham have enjoyed something of a resurgence over the past two years, breaking sales records which had stood for two decades. The iconic Seven, designed in the fifties by Lotus founder Colin Chapman, is winning over an all-new generation of fans, and Caterham kicked off its birthday celebrations late last year with the launch of a retro-themed special edition called the Sprint – it sold out within a week! This year saw Caterham hold a big birthday bash for the Seven at the Donington Park race track.
“This year is already another record-breaking one for Caterham and our Seven and we’ve still got a few months to go,” said Graham Macdonald, Caterham’s Chief Executive Officer.
“For the Seven to reach 60 and to continue to be such a sales success is a huge achievement. We continue to prove that the Seven is a timeless classic and that Caterham is a loved and cherished British brand. “But we won’t stop here, we will continue to ensure the future of the Seven is bright.”
