A pair of classic cars once owned by some of the biggest names in British pop music are to go under the hammer next month.
Star of the Silverstone Auctions event, which takes place on 9-10 November during the Classic Car Show at the Birmingham NEC, is a 1963 Corvette Stingray bought new by Sir Cliff Richard.
Joining it in the sale is another car to shout about, a Mercedes-Benz 280 SE 3.8 Coupe bought new in 1971 by Lulu.
Sir Cliff owned the Stingray from 1963 to 1965, and it comes complete with the original log book in his real name of Harry Rodger Webb. It has been in possession of its current owner since 2012, when it was purchased from specialist dealer Claremont Corvette. Recent work includes a full respray and new leather seats. With just 69,000 miles on the clock and its original Delco radio, the Stingray is estimated to fetch upwards of £50,000.
Lulu’s old Mercedes is expected to fetch even more, estimated at between £65,000 and £75,000. Owned by the Scottish songstress for its first three years before being sold to an Arabian businessman, the 280 SE 3.8 Coupe was then owned by a Mercedes-Benz enthusiast for 38 years before being purchased by the vendor two years ago. It too has its original radio, a Becker Mexico radio cassette, and has been rarely driven in recent years.
The auctions will commence at 2pm on both the 10th and 11th of November.
