After seeing Jaguar's clay C-X16, we were inspired to find a selection of cars made from strange substances. Take a look at these...
The Una Cebu (image removed at owner's request) was designed around a Porsche 356 and was made from coconuts. The Filipino sports car also had a dashboard made out of... seashells.
Hyundai revealed this concept car at the 2007 Geneva Motor Show. The Qarmaq was made out of recycled plastic bottles. Hyundai claimed that this was a brilliant idea and made the Qarmaq 50% lighter. Five years later there's still no sign of the Hyundai Evian although we like the look of the new, ahem, Volvic V40.
Brooklyn-based Jonathan Brand sold his 1969 Ford Mustang to buy an engagement ring and missed it so much, he built a full-sized model of it out of paper. Brand claimed that the paper Mustang actually handled better than the original. Okay, we made that last bit up.
Never a man to shy away from extravagant displays of wealth, Ryman's owner and TV Dragon Theo Paphitis ordered his latest Maybach covered in gold bullion. Everything from the steering wheel to the sat-nav is made out of gold. However, the extra weight has dulled the performance slightly - the gold Maybach tops out at 47mph.
Unfortunately, none of this is actually true. The Gold Maybach story was an April Fool's Day Joke. Pity.

Unveiled at last year's Geneva Motor Show, the Rinspeed Bamboo was made out of, well, bamboo. On the downside, it was absolutely hideous but on the upside, it could manage a top speed of 75mph thanks to its 72bhp electric motor. Where's my chequebook?
You must remember this. In 2007, Skoda launched the 'Cake' advertising campaign to promote its new Fabia. The Fabia Cake was made out of 100kg of flour, 180 eggs and 270kg of icing sugar. Tasty.
A Chevrolet made of Playdoh...

P-Diddy's Dinky. This sequin-covered model is about as bling as bling gets.
An F1 car made out of bread? Crumbs!
The BamGoo is an electric car made out of bamboo. We never thought we'd be saying this, but we'd take a Prius any day.
It's the safest car in the world! This dry-stone wall Beetle would do well in the EuroNCAP tests, if you could only get it started. It also rusts less readily than a standard Beetle and has more sophisticated rear suspension.
