This is the Alpina B3 Biturbo, a high-performance saloon based on the latest BMW 3-Series, which is set to go on show at the Geneva Motor Show next month.
We'll give you the lowdown on the B3 in a minute, but first a little history lesson for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Alpina name.
Formed in 1965, Alpina GmbH is a German car manufacturer which is famous for creating performance versions of BMW models. However, unlike Mercedes' AMG division or BMW's M division, Alpina is not simply a tuning arm of BMW but an independent manufacturer in its own right.
Okay, now that we've got that out of the way, let's have a look-see at the B3's technical specs. Well, power comes from same 3.0-litre straight-six engine which BMW uses in the 335i; however, Alpina, clearly dissatisfied with the 335i's meagre 306bhp, has bolted on another turbocharger, making it a Biturbo.
As a result, the Alpina B3 develops 404bhp and 442lb-ft of torque, which is sent to the rear wheels via an eight-speed automatic gearbox. 0-62mph takes 4.2 seconds and flat out the B3 will hit 190mph.
But despite the B3's impressive performance, Alpina claims that the B3 will return a combined 37.2mpg and emit just 177g/km of CO2.
The B3 will be available in both saloon and estate bodystyles. There will even be an all-wheel-drive version which, unfortunately, will be sold only in left-hand-drive.
The Alpina B3 Biturbo will go on sale in the UK this summer. Prices have yet to be confirmed.
