The naming people in Skoda's marketing department were not being ironic when they decided to endow their flagship model with the 'Superb' moniker. Far from it. In fact, the Skoda Superb is an astonishing car and a convincing winner in our 'Large Family Car' category.
And when we say 'Large Family Car', what we actually mean is 'Utterly Massive Family Car'. The space inside the Superb is almost unbelievable for a car of this type. You'll comfortably get five people in the Superb, and the boot is the size of Earl's Court. The boot itself is also very clever; Skoda's 'TwinDoor' hatchback can be opened like a saloon and like a hatchback, making the Superb, without question, the most practical car in its class.

It's a comfortable place to be too. The Superb's on-the-road refinement is very impressive and its suspension irons out creases in the road with aplomb. But despite the car's sizeable dimensions and soft suspension, it's actually quite a fun car to drive. Granted, it's not a Toyota GT86, but for a car large enough to have its own postcode, the Superb is an agile performer.
Inside, the cabin is screwed together with the sort of attention to detail we've come to expect from the Czech company, and Skoda's superb reliability record is reassuring.
And when you factor in the Superb's low price tag, you're left with the inevitable conclusion that, in value-for-money terms, Skoda's flagship is unbeatable. It is, in short, a deeply impressive car.
