The Mitsubishi ASX is often overlooked in this section of the market. This is a pity because, for our money, it's one of the most capable crossovers out there, offering oodles of interior space, rock-solid build quality and an excellent blend of comfort and handling.
It's the superb 1.8-litre diesel engine which really shines in the ASX, returning upwards of 60mpg and offering good performance and excellent low-down flexibility. Combines this with a temptingly-low list price and you're left with a very convincing all-round family car.
