Bernie Ecclestone revealed his plans for a possible London Grand Prix last night at the Royal Automobile Club in London.

Jenson Button and Lewis Hamilton were both in attendance and the highlight of the evening was a CGI video of a lap of the track and, as you can see, the organisers are planning for the race to be held at night. Click on the image below to play the video:

London Grand Prix

There has been talk of there being a London Grand Prix since the 1960s and, for a variety of reasons, the plans have never materialised. However, it now seems more certain than ever thanks to Ecclestone agreeing to stump up the £35 million it will cost to stage. Mayor of London Boris Johnson also seems to support the idea thanks to the inevitable economic boost which it will bring to the capital.

There will undoubtedly be opposition to the plans -- we can't imagine that the environmentalists will be too happy about it -- but surely the thought of a McLaren blasting down Piccadilly at 180mph is reason enough for the race to go ahead.
