Vauxhall has announced that the public will be able to see its new Astra GTC in the metal at the Goodwood Festival of Speed.
The company has announced the Astra GTC, due to make its official world premiere at the Frankfurt Motor Show in September, will now be appearing as part of the Vauxhall line up for this year's Goodwood Festival of Speed at the beginning of next month.
Vauxhall has co-ordinated the announcement to coincide with the opening of the UK order books for the Astra GTC, which was first seen as a concept model at the 2010 Paris Motor Show. The Astra GTC, a three-door coupe with a heavily revised chassis and all new styling, will be making twice daily runs up the Goodwood hillclimb course, and the rest of the time will be displayed in the Cathedral Paddock.
Joining the new Astra GTC at the Goodwood Festival of Speed will be a sporty Astra from Vauxhall's past. The company has announced that it will be giving demonstration runs in the Astra 4-S, built to Group S rally regulations for the 1985 season and fitted with a supercharged Ascona 400 engine producing a formidable 321bhp, and X-Trac four-wheel drive.
Also from Vauxhall's past is the XVR concept model seen as a vision of the future when first shown at the 1966 Geneva Motor Show. The curvy and unique design with gullwing-style doors will be entered into the Fesitval's Cartier 'Style et Luxe' event.
The Vauxhall line up will be completed by a showcase of its electric vehicle technology. The Vauxhall Ampera E-REV, or extended-range electric vehicle, will be on show in the Festival of Speed Tech Pavillion for visitors to take a look at ahead of its release on the UK market. When released, Vauxhall claims the Ampera will offer a range of up to 350 miles, but with the potential of zero tailpipe emissions. Alongside the Ampera display will be General Motors' EN-V, or electric networked vehicle, which will be making its European driving debut. The 1.5-metre long, two-wheeler EN-V is GM's interpretation of what electric vehicles could look like in 2030. The lithium-ion phosphate battery propelled EN-V has zero emissions, a 25-mile range and top speed of 25mph. Its new technologies include collision avoidance and a system giving it the ability to operate in convoy with other EN-Vs.
The 2011 Goodwood Festival of Speed starts on Friday 1st July, running until Sunday 3rd July.
