The Alfa Romeo Stelvio Quadrifoglio has set a new record, becoming the fastest production SUV to lap the legendary Nordschleife at the Nurburgring circuit.
In the hands of Italian racer Fabio Francia, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio completed a 12.9 mile lap in 7 minutes 51.7 seconds, a full eight seconds faster than the previous production SUV record. Alfa Romeo’s first ever production SUV, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio incorporates a lightweight carbon fibre driveshaft and perfect 50/50 weight distribution. Powered by an all-aluminium, direct-injection 2.9-litre 24-valve twin-turbo intercooled V6 engine, the range-topping Quadrifoglio model has 510bhp to call upon. Coupled with Q4 all-wheel-drive and an eight-speed automatic gearbox with Race mode option, the Stelvio Quadrifoglio was well-equipped for its flying lap.
Francia also holds the Nurburgring lap record for production four door saloons, having lapped in 7 minutes 32 seconds behind the wheel of an Alfa Romeo Giulia Quadrifoglio with a lap time of just 7 minutes and 32 seconds.
The Alfa Romeo Stelvio is now available in UK dealerships, with the range-topping Stelvio Quadrifoglio joining the UK line up next year.
