If you liked Volkswagen’s Up! but were concerned that a 3 door car was not a practical option, then things are looking Up! (sorry, couldn’t resist), as the first official images have emerged of the 5 door version.

The VW Up! - the world’s only car with an exclamation mark in its name - debuted at the Frankfurt motor show last September as a 3 door car.

The 5 door Up! is essentially the same as the 3 door, it will be built on the same wheelbase and come with the same choice of engines, a 59bhp or 74bhp, 1.0 litre three-cylinder petrol engine. There will also be the addition of a 59bhp Bluemotion model, which does 67mpg and has CO2 emissions of 99g/km, making it road-tax exempt.

The new 5 door Volkswagen Up! is expected to go on sale towards the backend of 2012, for around £400-500 more than the 3 door model, which would mean a starting price of £8,395-£8,495.
