The Auris is very good value for money and should be endlessly reliable. It's about as exciting as filling in a tax return but if you're looking for a cheap, practical car, you won't go far wrong with the Auris.

PROS:  Cheap to run, practical, reliable

CONS:  Not the most exciting car in its class, the engine feels laboured

Behind the Wheel

The Toyota Auris Edition 1.33 VVT-i 5dr develops a nice round 100bhp and 97lb-ft of torque. Performance is leisurely, with 0-62mph taking 13.1 seconds and a top speed of 109mph.

The steering has a slightly detached feel but the Toyota Auris Edition 1.33 VVT-i 5dr still handles well. It basically does everything it should but still doesn’t match up to some of the other cars in its class.

Drivers that take the Toyota Auris Edition 1.33 VVT-i 5dr onto the open road should expect a noisy ride! The petrol engine revs smoothly enough but could be a little more refined. Wind noise is excessive but the ride is very comfortable.

Looks & Equipment

The Toyota Auris Edition 1.33 VVT-i 5dr has been designed with the driver's ergonomics in mind and every button, control and key is easy to reach. The seating is relatively versatile and can be adjusted to both the drivers and passenger’s choice.

Alloy wheels, air con, electric door mirrors and electric front windows come as standard. Metallic paint can be added as an extra, however leather seats aren’t an option. If you are expecting a snazzy interior, don’t get your hopes up.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Toyota Auris Edition 1.33 VVT-i 5dr comes with a five-year/100,000 mile warranty and Toyota have a legendary reputation for reliability which means that drivers should be able to buy an Auris with confidence.

The interior materials feel durable; they don’t however look particularly aesthetically pleasing.

Every Auris comes with front, side and curtain airbags as well as an additional airbag, which is there to protect the driver’s knees. The Toyota Auris Edition 1.33 VVT-i 5dr has received a Euro NCAP rating of 5 stars.

Value for Money

The Toyota Auris Edition 1.33 VVT-i 5dr costs a very reasonable £15,890, making it excellent value for money compared to some of its rivals.

Running costs should also be low thanks to fuel economy of 47.9mpg on the combined cycle and CO2 emissions of 136g/km which put the car under VED band E.

Depreciation should also be very slow.
