Saab 9-5 Overview
The 9-5 is Saab’s alternative to the German brands. Buyers who don’t find the German brands appealing may be drawn to the uniqueness of the Saab 9-5. The car has been enhanced and updated in order to stay modern, but for the most part the 9-5 is very much the same car.
Background
The first generation 9-5 was introduced in 1997 and won awards for its innovative safety features, notably ‘Saab’s Active Head Restraints’ which moved in a way to prevent whiplash. There was also a performance version of the 9-5 available from 2000 which was known as the Aero which had sport tuned suspension.
Saab introduced the second generation 9-5 in 2010 along with an estate version which they named the ‘SportCombi’ in 2011. The SportCombi was never actually sold however as a result of the unfortunate business issues which hit Saab in 2011.
The 9-5 focused on sound ergonomics, good levels of cabin space and refinement. The car also received some exterior enhancements such as chrome highlights around the car's headlamps and the car received a new nose. The second generation car’s exterior is more attractive than ever and has a more distinguished look than previous models.
Summary
The Saab 9-5 is the premium choice for people who don't find the traditional German premium offerings appealing. Swedish firm Saab has made a living out of producing cars that are a little bit different and the company's 9-5 is one of those products; the driving and ownership experience is a world apart from its thrusting, Teutonic rivals.
