The RCZ is fitted with a 1.6-litre four-cylinder petrol engine which develops 156bhp and 180lb-ft of torque. The RCZ isn't overly fast, taking 9.0 seconds to hit 62mph and hitting top speed at 132mph.
As is often the way with smaller sports cars, it's the way this things handles that is its major seeling point. The RCZ is great fun to drive with sharp, direct steering, a surfeit of grip and a responsive, stiff chassis. It's clear that handling has taken precedence over ride comfort and the Pug can get a little jiggly on uneven road surfaces but that's all part of its charm.
The RCZ is easily the best looking car that Peugeot currently makes, although that isn't really saying much. The Pug look both innovative and classy at the same time and is likely to win a number of fans thanks to its space age shape. The interior is a sumptuous feast of soft-touch plastics and robust switchgear and this makes the cabin an appealing place to be.
The RCZ also comes with a decent amount of standard equipment including alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows, rear parking sensors, CD player with MP3 connectivity and Bluetooth. Sat-nav is a pricey option at £1470 and metallic paint will set you back £440.
The RCZ should be a very safe car and comes with stability control and four airbags to protect vehicle occupants in the event of a crash.
Peugeot have a bit of a dodgy reputation when it comes to reliability and there are no reliability figures on the RCZ because it is still relatively new. It all feels well put together though.
The RCZ has a decent sized boot for a coupe with 309-litres on offer but the rear seats are very cramped indeed.
At £22,345, the RCZ Sport THP 156 Auto 2dr is reasonably priced and comes with a good level of standard equipment for the money. It should also benefit from strong residual values thanks to its desirable image.
The running costs are a little higher than you would expect for such a small car and you'll only manage 38.6mpg (combined). CO2 emissions of 168g/km push the RCZ up into VED band H too. It isn't terrifically expensive to run but if you want lower running costs, you should go for the diesel.
