The RCZ's 1.6-litre diesel engine produces 156bhp and 180lb-ft of torque. This translates into a 0-62mph time of 9.0 seconds and a top speed of 132mph.
The RCZ is not particularly fast by sports car standards and enthusiastic drivers may be disappointed, however, it is the way in which the car handles which stands out. The steering is sharp and the RCZ grips well through the bends. The ride is a little uncomposed but this is forgiveable in a car with sporting pretensions.
The RCZ looks fantastic, with crisp, modern lines and a stylish profile. Peugeot's ubiquitous 'grinning mouth' front grille is present but looks surprisingly good on the RCZ. The interior is also sensational and is tastefully designed with a quality feel. The whole things feels well put together too which will be a surprise to those who remember Peugeots of old.
The RCZ is also well equipped and comes with alloy wheels, climate control, electric windows and mirrors, rear parking sensors, CD player with MP3 connectivity and Bluetooth, Sat-nav will set you back a further £1470 and metallic paint can be added for £440.
At 309-litres, the RCZ has a very impressive boot, easily big enough for the weekly shop and the odd weekend away. Forget any notion of seating four people though, those rear seats are strictly for kiddywinks.
Euro NCAP have yet to test the RCZ but it should be relatively safe thanks to ABS, stability control and four airbags.
Peugeot have a chequered history when it comes to reliability but the RCZ feels well screwed together and comes with a 3 year/60,000 mile warranty.
The RCZ GT THP 156 Auto 2dr is reasonably priced at £24,695 although some buyers may be reluctant to pay this much for a Peugeot.
The running costs are higher than you might image but still relatively reasonable. You'll average 38.6mpg and road tax will be £190 a year under VED band H. Group 28 insurance is pretty reasonable for a car like this.
