PROS: There is no doubt that the CL-Class is a superb luxury car that has bags of power and pace, and the driving experience is one that is difficult to rival.
CONS: The massive costs simply to purchase and run the CL-Class will be a big prohibitive factor for most car buyers, and the agility and handling of the car come at the cost of a firm ride.
The driving experience for this car is very good indeed, and the AMG tuned chassis makes for an involving drive, even if the steering is still a little light. This is a very large car but feels smaller on the road, and although some people will find the ride quite hard, it is still comfortable enough to be driven on a regular basis over long journeys. In terms of the visibility offered by the car, it is good both to the front and the back, and the driving position is almost infinitely adjustable to suit every individual.
Performance will be one of the CL-Class Coupe 63 AMG's biggest selling points and the pace is remarkable. The acceleration from 0-62mph is a lightning fast 4.5 seconds and the car will continue accelerating until it runs into the electric limiter at 155mph.
Considering that this is a very big car, it does have a very low-slung position, and the two-bar grille with the large Mercedes-Benz logo on the front is a part of a very distinctive front end. Behind the aerodynamically flared bonnet the cabin and rear end are designed to minimise air resistance and allow the CL-Class Coupe 63 AMG to slice through the air with a minimum of fuss. The alloy wheels and chrome exhausts are nice finishing touches to what is a very good looking car.
For a car that costs this much, you would expect plenty of kit, and this is certainly the case, with satellite navigation, Bluetooth connectivity and leather seats all present and correct. The CD stereo system is one that is supplied with a hard drive, which is also a very nice touch in this luxurious car. An electric sunroof, power heated seats, climate control and cruise control all help to ensure that the car is great to drive and has a comfortable cabin.
The CL-Class Coupe 63 AMG certainly has the safety aspect covered, with the typical range of airbags all included to look after occupants in a collision. It also has some very advanced driving aids which help to keep the car on the road, and even to look after the car if you are accidentally drifting across motorway lanes.
The space available is fine in the front and rear of the car, and the boot is large enough to carry plenty of luggage.
Most people will not have the funds available to buy a car at the list price of the CL-Class, but you do get a lot for your £115,660.
Considering the sensational performance figures for the 5.5 litre engine, the fuel efficiency of an average 26.9mpg is not as bad as some of its rivals. However, this is always going to be an expensive car to own and, with group 50 insurance and VED band L road tax, running costs will be very high. Depreciation is also a problem, however the car does come with the standard Mercedes-Benz three year warranty package.
