The C-Class Coupe is an attractive car that is based on one of the stalwarts of the Mercedes-Benz range, the C-Class saloon. The level of equipment included in this version is very nice delivering a comfortable cabin, while the driving experience is very good with the powerful engine delivering real coupe performance without having to go for the huge 6.2 litre engine in the marquee version of the car.

PROS:  The larger engine in this higher specification C-Class Coupe offers a good balance of performance and efficiency, and is also an attractive car that has a good level of equipment.

CONS:  This version does cost significantly more than some of the cheaper versions in the range, while it also suffers from a limited amount of headroom in the back seats.

Behind the Wheel

The lowered and stiffened suspension to be found in this AMG Sport version of the C-Class Coupe works very well delivering handling that is very good and steering that has plenty of feedback. The counter to this is a ride that is quite firm, without being so hard that it allows all of the bumps into the cabin, and this is a very fine balance that has been struck. Inside the cabin the driving position has plenty of adjustment available both for the steering wheel and the driving seat, but the visibility to the rear is slightly hampered by the lower roof.

The engine performance delivered by this 3.5 litre engine is very good indeed, with acceleration from 0-62mph reached in 6.0 seconds. The top speed has been limited to 155mph, but this is still more than enough for the majority of drivers. Refinement in the car is very good even at motorway speeds, with only a little bit of road noise to be heard in the cabin.

Looks & Equipment

The design of the C-Class Coupe does mirror many of the typical features to be seen in a Mercedes-Benz, and the large badge is a centre point for the front end. The lines of the car are very nice and sleek, and the coupe does see the roof curve much more than the saloon, with a tail end that is tidy enough. Inside the cabin the C-Class Coupe is very nice and has the high level of build quality that you will expect from a Mercedes-Benz, and it also has a nice dashboard too.

This version of the C-Class Coupe does have a high level of equipment included with the car, and although the large alloy wheels do affect fuel efficiency they are also very attractive. Bluetooth connectivity is a very good feature, and the climate control does help to ensure the cabin remains comfortable. It is however disappointing that leather seats are only an optional extra in a car that does have a hefty price tag.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The C-Class Coupe is definitely a four seater car with the rear seats practical for use, although the tallest passengers may find the limited headroom an issue. The boot is also of a good size, and should accommodate the luxury for all four occupants comfortably. Mercedes-Benz has a well deserved reputation for making reliable cars, and the C-Class Coupe continues in this great tradition.

The car is also a very safe one to drive, and has a good range of airbags to look after the driver and passengers in case of an accident. There are also a number of advanced driver aids that help to keep the car under control even in poor driving conditions, and all these features helped the car achieve five stars in the Euro NCAP safety tests.

Value for Money

This version of the C-Class Coupe is the most powerful below the C63 model which costs a lot more, and with a list price of £37,640 it is still quite competitively priced.

The running costs for this model aren’t bad at all, with the 3.5 litre engine offering better efficiency than the 1.8 litre engine. This car manages an average 40.4mpg, which is very good considering the sporty performance of the car. Insuring this car will be quite expensive, but due to the desirability of the car it shouldn’t lose too much of its value when it comes to selling the car. Mercedes-Benz supply the C-Class Coupe with a three year unlimited mileage warranty and also has roadside breakdown assistance.
