Background
The first generation of the Mercedes C-Class began production in 1993. It was available as a 4-door saloon or a 5-door estate.
All of the initial models were equipped with a 5-speed manual transmission. A 4-speed automatic transmission was available as an extra cost, and was replaced with a 5-speed automatic 'box 1996.
A second generation of the vehicle was introduced in 2000.
A wider range of engines and transmissions were now available, including a 7-speed automatic. As well as a 5-door estate and 4-door saloon, the second generation could also be purchased as a 2-door coupe.
This generation received a facelift in 2004. The revised model featured new interior styling, better technology and an upgraded selection of engines.
The third and current generation of the Mercedes C-Class has been in production since 2007. The coupe version was dropped from the line up, and the C-Class now comes with four trim levels of equipment.
The interior is more luxurious and the engine range has been upgraded. The coupe was re-introduced to the C-Class line up in September 2011.
