The Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury is a match for most, if not all, luxury executive saloon cars around the same price tag. However, what it alone has is its breathtakingly stylish design, with gloriously sweeping curves. That fact the big cat is also powerful and rewarding to drive - coupled with an equally well-appointed interior - results in a car that is sure to make its driver feel special. And having spent that amount of money on a car, you can be forgiven for wanting one which will make you feel special, particularly given the running costs.

PROS:  Exquisite styling both inside and out, considerable power, and excellent handling characteristics, mean the Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury is a delight to look at, drive, or ride in.

CONS:  It does have a slightly firm ride, and headroom for rear seat passengers could be better.

Behind the Wheel

The Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury is powered by a 24-valve, V6 engine which produces 275bhp at 4000rpm, and 442 lb-ft of torque at 2000rpm. These figures are superior to those of similar priced rivals like the BMW 730Ld SE and the Audi A8 3.0 TDI Quattro SE Executive. The Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury goes from 0-62mph in a competitive 6.4 seconds, and a top speed equal to its rivals of 155mph. An efficient, 6-speed automatic gearbox is mated to this engine in the Premium Luxury model.

The ride is firmer than on Jaguar XJ’s of old, but is still very comfortable. The Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury has excellent handling characteristics for such a large luxury car, with accurate and responsive steering, and superb body control. The result is a car that is engaging to drive, but also relaxing on long journeys.

Looks & Equipment

The Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury looks undeniably both stylish and elegant, but at the same time purposeful and aggressive. The bold grille at the prow giving way to a swooping profile, and a plunging roofline toward the rear.

Beauty is more than skin deep, with a tasteful, spacious, high-quality interior, that has a traditional feel despite incorporating ultra-modern elements such as a digital dashboard and touchscreen control display.

The standard equipment level in the Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury is as extensive as other cars in its class with power steering, central locking, alloy wheels, dynamic stability control, climate control, electric door mirrors, electric windows, cruise control, rear parking sensors, leather seats, airbags all round, alarm & immobiliser, CD player, MP3 connectivity, bluetooth, and satnav.

Practicality, Safety & Reliability

The Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury offers a first class, quiet comfortable cabin despite the slightly firm ride. The only notable downside to the cabin is restricted headroom for rear seat passengers.

The 520 litres of boot capacity found in the Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury is superior to the space found in the boot of the Audi A8 and BMW 7-series.

The Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury comes with a 3-year, unlimited mileage warranty. It comes with driver airbag, passenger airbag, front side airbags, and dynamic stability control.

Value for Money

At just shy of £60,000, the Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury is almost identical in price to the BMW 730Ld SE and the Audi A8 3.0 TDI Quattro SE Executive. The Jaguar compares well in terms of specification and standard features.

With fuel economy figures of a combined 40.1mpg the Jaguar XJ 3.0 V6 Premium Luxury is marginally less economical than those two rival. Its C02 emissions of 184g/km means it shares Road Tax Band I with the BMW 730Ld SE, as well as the same insurance group of 48.

The Jaguar XJ does suffer from a higher level of depreciation than some of its rivals.
